Lamb and Mint Meatballs
Ingredients
- 500g ground lamb
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, mint leaves, cumin, coriander, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 2: Bind the Meatballs
Add the beaten egg and breadcrumbs to the lamb mixture, stirring gently to incorporate. The mixture should hold together when shaped. If too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
Step 3: Shape the Meatballs
Using your hands, roll the mixture into small, evenly sized balls (about 1-inch in diameter). Place them on a plate or tray.
Step 4: Cook the Meatballs
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, ensuring they aren’t overcrowded. Cook for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
Step 5: Serve
Transfer the cooked meatballs to a serving dish and garnish with extra mint leaves if desired. Serve warm with tzatziki, pita bread, or a fresh salad.
Tips
For an extra burst of flavor, add a sprinkle of crumbled feta cheese before serving. You can also bake these meatballs at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes if preferred.
